Our mandate

The petites âmes… the small souls… the souls of the small characters that come to life in our hands and with whom we reach out to our spectators, often small themselves. In the theatre, a place where we create and tell stories with words but mostly with images and music, we bring you on a journey where big and small we grow.

Théâtre des Petites Âmes was founded in 2007 by the artistic director Isabelle Payant and administrative director Stéphane Guy. The share the general management of the company.

An intimate theatre

Théâtre des Petites Âmes choses to perform in an intimate setting allowing our audience to be very close to the universes we create. Our main mandate is to create for children ages 2 ½ and up. We also have punctual projects for adult audiences but always and for all, a research process around the material is central to our creative process.

A theatre is a a meeting space between a show and its audience. We love beautiful venues but we have chosen to be completely independent technically, allowing us to transform various spaces into theaters adapted to the young audience. All we need is darkness and silence!

Touring

We create our works in French but English and Spanish are not far behind… and sometimes in other languages (POMME, the Story of an Apple was performed in Japanese and Czech!) We create for audiences at home but we love to pack our bags and meet audiences around the country and the globe.

Since we began, we have performed in indoor venues more than 1500 times, having travelled thousands of kilometers from Natashquan to Rouyn, from Caraquet to Vancouver.

Our work also brings us across borders. Since 2008, the company has visited the following countries: USA, Mexico, France, Scotland, Czech Republic, Spain, Senegal, China and Japan. Always we have the same desire, to meet people and share our stories.
